Elegant Julie

The Julie cutlery is designed to be comfortable in the hand and is well balanced with fine tactile qualities. With her long, elegant shapes, Julie fits nicely into all table settings. Julie is a unique cutlery that both feels good to use and looks gorgeous. It is an example of the very best in Norwegian design – beautiful shapes that clearly spring from the function.

The Julie design is inspired by old and traditional silver cutlery. Silver cutlery often had forks with very long peaks. We wanted a more modern design while maintaining old and proud traditions – something we at the Hardanger brand are very interested in. The spoons in the Julie design are inspired by droplet, which makes them significantly wider at the end of the spoon blade. The droplet shape contributes to good tactile properties. Tactile properties are properties of a product that are perceived by touch, for example whether the product feels hard, soft, smooth or rough. This strengthens good dining experiences.

The design process

Design is about creating good products where both form and function are taken care of in the best possible way. The products are tools that will cover both practical and emotional needs. Aesthetics is not just about the visual – but the whole sensory experience of a product. To achieve this, consideration for the user must be central, but also knowledge of material and how things can be produced. Much of our inspiration comes from nature, but also through meeting people.

How we hold the cutlery was central to the design process of Julie. We all have our own way of holding cutlery, but not all types of cutlery are suitable for all user groups. The dynamic curvature and organic shape mean that the cutlery fits well in the hands with different grips, despite narrow shapes.

In a timeless design, size is essential. Around 2010, tableware of a larger size became increasingly popular, large plates and bowls inspired by the restaurant feeling were brought into Scandinavian homes. We wanted to inspire people to focus at the everyday dinner, namely the dinner we eat the most. Based on the growing size of the tableware and the desire for an elegant everyday cutlery, Julie was designed.

The Julie design quickly became a success and has since its launch been a growing favorite in Scandinavian homes. It is elegant, soft and enriches any table setting.

Maintenance of cutlery
All our designs contain 18% chromium and 10% nickel, which is stainless steel. This quality increases the durability of the cutlery and is durable so you can use the cutlery for all occasions. The Julie design can be washed in the dishwasher, but we still recommend rinsing the cutlery well in advance to avoid stains. If you want more information, you can read more about cutlery maintenance.
